All IT graduates ,lets raise our voice

Recently one of my college senior told me about the problem he is facing. But this is not his problem only; unfortunately this happens to be our problem too. This is the problem that we, the IT graduates of Purbanchal University (PU) are going to face in near future.

Ok, taking about the problem, he said me that, recently he had applied for a job opening in Nepal Telecom. The qualification mentioned there were- BIT/BE comp/ BEIT/ Bsc Comp...All looked fine, but a single clause made him deprive from even applying for the job. At the last line of the qualifications, it was mentioned that the candidates should be registered in Nepal Engineering Council (NEC). And guess what, NEC don't consider the IT graduates of PU eligible for registration.

I am not talking about the registration only. Registration don't really bother us. And many of the "unregistered" IT professionals have done far better than those called "NEC registered Engineer" in the relevant fields. The question is not about mere registration; with this comes our identity. If the people studying same course have BE or BSC in front of their degree, then they get their identity guaranteed by someone, but we cant get ours. Who are we? Are we Engineers? or professionals? Well, i think many of us want to be called ITcians. That sounds very suitable for us.

One may think that IT graduates and professionals should have registered themselves in CAN or HLCIT. But the NEC gives registration for the IT graduates of other university. The only difference being in the name of the degree. They say, they can register only Bsc Computer, BE comp, BEIT, BscIT.....It means not having BE or BSC in front of our degree has cost us ban in major opportunities. If the course were different according to name, we would have thought that our degree is different. But the course pattern is same, the recognition in outer world is same (many people who took BIT here, are studying ME in USA and Europe), the subject materials are same, then i don't see a genuine reason why don't we deserve to be registered.

No matter it may be CAN or HLCIT or even ITS Nepal, there should be a body which speaks for us, have concern about our problem and give us an identity. Here let me mention that only identity is not acceptable if it is not recognized by others. So the main theme is that we want our identity which is recognized and respected by all other fields and guaranteed by some organizational body.

On this matter, no one has ever uttered a word. So many people are unaware of this problem. But now is the time to raise our voice, because if we don't talk not, then this problem is never going to be solved. There are organizations of the ITcians; like ITS nepal, CAN, HLCIT and so on. So i would like to request officials and members of these organizations on behalf of the entire ITcians who are deprived of their identity; please do something from your side. Your little effort can make our voice resonant in the country. My request also goes to all the IT graduates, professionals, teachers, students and all concerned people to do whatever u can on your behalf. Lets come together, talk and then solve our problems............
